Discover Barra

  1. Beach laning in Barra
Barra airport, in Eoligarry to the north of the island, has the worlds only scheduled beach landing flights in the world. It’s well worth visiting the airport to watch the flights land, and there a café to enjoy a cuppa while you wait.
  2. Barra Kisimul Castle and boat
Home of Clan MacNeil, this medieval castle was built in 15th Century and rebuilt in 1956-1970. Take the short boat ride over to the castle, walk the footsteps of great clan chiefs of past and climb the tower house battlements for spectacular views over Castlebay.
  3. Common Buzzard © Laurie Campbell
Craigston, to the west of Barra, is an idyllic place to spot birds of prey and particularly Eagles. Craigston is also a fantastic location for watching Lapwing, Snipe Breed and Redshank, on the surrounding croft land.
  4. Take a wildlife trip to Mingulay
    1. 1st January 202331st December 2023
  5. Barra Bike Hire is based on the beautiful Isle of Barra in the Outer Hebrides. A quality hire bike from Barra Bike Hire is, in our opinion, easily the best way to explore our island ‘Barradise’!
