Barra airport is located at Eoligarry, in the North part of the island and Traigh Mhor is the beach where the plane lands - the only scheduled plane landing that lands on a beach in the world! It is well worth visiting the airport to watch the flights land on the beach and there is a cafe to have a cuppa while you wait.
There are special safety precautions which visitors are asked to observe. There is no public access allowed on the beach when the airport wind sock is flying or when the strobe light on the air traffic control tower is on. When the light is on, it warns of imminent aircraft arrival.
