Urras nan Tursachan (the Standing Stones Trust) set up the Calanais Visitor Centre, and it was first opened to the public 30 June 1995. The main aim for the Visitor Centre is to educate visitors on the story of the world famous Callanish Standing Stones. As one of the main attractions on the island, the Standing Stones attract an estimated 150,000 people a year. The Centre is a place for visitors to come and relax, learn about our heritage, sit in the cafe with a speciality tea or coffee and relax while admiring the beautiful surrounding landscape. The cafe also offers visitors a chance to sample some of our local delicacies, such as Stornoway black pudding, as well as plenty of home baking.
