About

Valasay Croft House is a purpose-built, semi-detached croft house in one of the most spectacular locations on Great Bernera, overlooking the Kyles of Valasay. Perfectly situated on the scenic coastal walking route to Bosta Beach, it offers the ideal base for exploring the island’s stunning coastline, rich wildlife and fascinating history.

The walk to the beautiful white sands of Bosta Beach takes you through some of the finest scenery in the Outer Hebrides. Along the way, visitors can discover the reconstructed Iron Age roundhouse, built on the site of an ancient settlement, offering a fascinating insight into island life over 2,000 years ago.

From the house, guests enjoy uninterrupted views across the Kyles of Valasay, where grey seals are regular visitors, dolphins are often spotted offshore and a wide variety of sea and shore birds can be seen throughout the year. The ever-changing tides and light make this a truly special place to relax and unwind.

At the foot of the drive, a charming 100-year-old footbridge crosses a Marine Special Area of Conservation, designated to protect rare marine invertebrates and seaweeds. As the tide ebbs and flows beneath the bridge, the gentle sound of the water creates a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere that guests often remember long after their stay.

Inside, Valasay Croft House combines traditional island character with modern comfort. The house is heated throughout the year by an energy-efficient air source heat pump and is powered in part by solar panels with battery storage, helping to reduce its environmental impact. After a day exploring, guests can relax beside the cosy multi-fuel stove in the living room or stay connected with full-fibre broadband throughout the property.

Whether you’re walking the coastline, watching the abundant wildlife, discovering the history of Great Bernera or simply enjoying the spectacular sea views, Valasay Croft House provides a peaceful and comfortable retreat in one of the Isle of Lewis’s most beautiful settings.
