In The Black Loch, Peter May created the Linshader estate, near Lundale (South-West Lewis) where Coinneach Smith dies by falling off the cliffs. It turns out the circumstances of this are more relevant than Fin once thought.
“The Linshader estate extends south from the headland at Rudha Linsiadair, directly across the water from the Callanish standing stones. It takes in Loch Ceann Hùlabhaig, really just an extension of East Loch Roag, and the mouth of the Grimersta River, which it follows all the way into a marshy hinterland peppered with large and small lochs. In fact, it’s quite possible that there’s more water on the estate than there is land. Fishing and hunting are conducted from the lodge, and provide most of its income. There’s a gamekeeper and water bailiff, and varying numbers of ghillies and watchers, depending on the season.”
