About

Otter Bothy offers really special, private accommodation for one or two people, in a small but very cosy cabin, with spectacular views across West Loch Roag.

The bothy hosts a comfy double bed, basic cooking facilities, ensuite shower room and toilet, and total peace and quiet.

Only a few metres from the shoreline, there aren't many places you can sleep as close to the water as this and it allows for close encounters with some of the wonderful wildlife that the Outer Hebrides is famous for.

The Bothy has a very comfy double bed, with all linen provided.  There are basic cooking facilities, including a two ring hob, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster, pots and pans, and crockery for two.  There is also a large shower room, with toilet and sink.  The Bothy has a decking area with seating to enjoy the beautiful views.

There is direct access to West Loch Roag, ideal for kayakers, and a separate drying shed for wetsuits, surfboards, bikes, and also a firepit.

Otter Bothy prices

Otter Bothy costs £120 per night from March to October, and £80 from November to February,  (maximum two people, minimum two night stay).

To make a booking, or if you have any questions, please visit our website www.otterbunkhouse.com  or email otterbunkhouse@gmail.com, or telephone 07300926566.

LOCAL ACTIVITIES:

Uig is an excellent area for hiking, cycling, fishing, surfing, and climbing. The local area also boasts many beautiful beaches, including those of Valtos Peninsula, Uig bay, Mangersta and Mealista.  Water sports such as surfing and kite surfing are available nearby for those looking for adventure.

We also have four sit-on top kayaks for hire, two doubles and two singles.  Prices are £20 per person per day.  We provide buoyancy aids and paddles, but not wetsuits.  Please advise when booking if you would like to reserve kayaks during your stay.

The famous Lewis Chessmen, 12th century Viking chess pieces, were found at nearby Ardroil Beach. And the Callanish Stones are within a 20 minute drive of the bunkhouse.

Uig is an area of unspoiled, natural beauty.  The local area is a popular destination for walkers, cyclists, surfers, and nature and wildlife enthusiasts.  As well as the abundant nature to be found, the bunkhouse is in a perfect position for stargazing, and winter storm watching.  You may even be lucky enough to witness the awe-inspiring Aurora Borealis, otherwise known as the Northern Lights.

WILDLIFE:

The clear blue Atlantic waters provide a great feeding ground for marine mammals: otters, seals - both grey and common - various dolphins, porpoise, minke whales, killer whales, pilot whales, basking sharks and even the elusive sunfish. Amongst the local bird life there are sea eagles, golden eagles, gannets, fulmars, terns, divers, guillemots, razorbills, shearwaters and eider duck.

Wildlife trips and also trips to outlying islands, as well as St Kilda and the Flannans can be discovered on various boat trips from various providers from nearby Miavag pier.
