The short walk round the bay has excellent displays, telling the story of the herring industry on Barra. The bay was once filled with so many fishing boats that it was possible to walk across the bay, boat to boat, without getting your feet wet.

The breath-taking views over Loch Seaforth and the chance to see native trees in an otherwise rugged and tree-less landscape make this well worth a visit. The Observatory sits near the top of the circular track through the 100ha community woodland in the often-overlooked northern part of the estate.
