Urras nan Tursachan (the Standing Stones Trust) set up the Calanais Visitor Centre, and it was first opened to the public 30 June 1995. After nearly thirty years of successful operation, the Centre is about to undergo a major redevelopment project, transforming it into a fit-for-purpose amenity for the local community and a 5-star visitor attraction.
We are pleased to be able to offer some limited facilities for visitors while the works are on-going. From the 25th of March through to Autumn 2024 we will be providing a food wagon offering light refreshments, a pop-up shop and toilets. Plus, for a short time the 'Story of the Stones' will be open (£4, concessions available) where you can get an insight into the history and mystery of the Calanais Stone Circle.
During this time, the Calanais Standing Stones remain accessible from the visitor centre carpark and we hope you will still enjoy visiting one of the most significant megalithic complexes in Europe. Please note that parking will be limited. We thank you for your understanding during the improvements.
