Isle of Lewis food and drink is legendary
The largest island in the Outer Hebrides hosts a troop of tantalising pubs, restaurants and local delicacies.
To name them all would be a bit of a mouthful.
So here’s just a taster.
Isle of Lewis Food
Cleaver, The Boatshed, HS1, Eleven and the Harbour Kitchen all serve stunning fish and seafood right in the heart of Stornoway.
A wee bit further afield, there’s the phenomenal Uig Sands Restaurant. It’s awe inspiring vistas compliment its to die for seafood, vegetarian and vegan menu, beautifully. And if you head north to the parish of Ness there is the wonderful eatery, The Breakwater Cafe.
The Isle of Lewis is famous for its local delicacies too.
Guga is gannet chick, harvested from the tiny Sula Sgeir rock by the men of Ness, in a formative island tradition. The resulting meat, best served with potatoes, is a succulent cross between kippers and steak. And if you are lucky enough to sample, you will either love it or hate it!
Then there’s the world beating black pudding.
Oaty, chunky, meaty, juicy - Charles Macleod, WJ MacDonald and MacLeod & MacLeod butchers vie for the title of best Stonoway Black Pudding and the fine folk of Ness have their own version, the Ness Black Pudding at Cross Stores, so you have plenty choice!
Don't forget to pop into the smokehouse at Uig Lodge for some amazing smoked seafood. Or to the Good Food Boutique, which has loads of tasty local treats.
Isle of Lewis Drink
Lewis is home to some of the finest cafes, bars and hostelries in the Outer Hebrides.
Live music and perfectly poured pints, wines and spirits is standard in the many bars in Stornoway and there’s always the chance of an impromptu ceilidh at MacNeil’s.
After all that, you might want to blow away the cobwebs with a cracking cup of coffee.
An Lanntair and the Lews Castle Storehouse Café will give you the full bodied caffeine boost you crave.
So too will the Callanish Visitor Centre Café.
A hot Hebridean beverage to salute the neolithic standing stones always hits the spot. Or relax and have a wee "strupag" and some homebaking at the fabulous restored thatched Gearrannan Blackhouse Village Cafe.
