Urras nan Tursachan (the Standing Stones Trust) set up the Calanais Visitor Centre, and it was first opened to the public 30 June 1995. The aim is to educate visitors on the story of the world famous Callanish Standing Stones. As one of the main attractions on the island, the Standing Stones attract an estimated 150,000 people a year.
We have created a place for visitors to come and relax, learn about our heritage, sit in the cafe with a speciality tea or coffee and relax while admiring the beautiful surrounding landscape. The cafe serves breakfast from 10am till 12.30pm, lunch from 12.30 till 2.30pm and afternoon teas from 2.30 till 5pm.The café also offers visitors a chance to sample some of our local delicacies, such as Stornoway black pudding, as well as plenty of home baking.
* 2023 SEASON OPENING TIMES:
April 10th to June 3rd open Monday to Saturday 9am-4.30pm.
June 5th to September 30th, open Monday to Saturday 9am-5pm.
October 3rd to December 22nd, Tuesday to Saturday 10am-4pm.
*Please note the cafe and centre is closed on Sundays.
