About

This is one of the busiest route and the crossing takes approximately 2 hours 45 minutes, running 7 days a week. In the summer there are 2 crossings a day, there and back, sometimes 3 depending on the day of the week.

You can travel down from Stornoway down through the chain of islands and cross to the mainland using Caledonian Macbrayne Hopscotch tickets, which give you various options. If you are not such a good sailor, a shorter route accross the sea would be to cross via Uig, Skye to Tarbert, Harris taking approximately 1 hour 40 minutes and then drive or take the bus from Tarbert to your destination.

The Stornoway ferry terminal is within walking distance to the town centre and the bus station.

If you are taking a car, you are advised to book early as the ferry can be very busy, particularly in the summer season. The drive from Inverness to Ullapool takes apporximately 1 hour 15 minutes. You are requires to be at the ferry terimnal at least 45 minutes prior to departure.

Check the service status, as ferries can be delayed or cancelled due to adverse weather.
