About

Mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records as the windiest place in the UK. The Butt of Lewis comprises of rocks and cliffs up to 80 feet high and is the location of a 121 ft high lighthouse.
The lighthouse was built between 1859 and 1862 by David and Thomas Stevenson.
Take care on the cliffs, the grass is very slippy when wet and avoid anywhere near the edge of the crumbling cliffs.

Photographers Tip

Photography is best here at the beginning or end of the day. Good shots are possible from a point on the cliffs to the west of the lighthouse.
