About

Barra Bunting is our unique island guestbook.

If you have visited Barra and/or Vatersay then please make a bunting flag to mark your visit.  Flags can be made before you come to the island and handed into Bùth Bharraigh or made on your return home and posted to Barra Bunting c/o Bùth Bharraigh

Barra Bunting started in 2012 and around 300 flags have now been received.  The flags are joined together in strings and used to decorate community spaces or events.

We have received flags from nearly every corner of the world and it is always a joy when a new flag is handed in or comes through the post.

Flags can be knitted, woven, crocheted or made from fabric.  A template can be downloaded from the website. You may wish to make your flag from a piece of favourite material, embellished with buttons, sequins and ribbons to make your flag unique to you. There will also be an archive with pictures of each of the flags and a little about the people that made them, where they are from, what their flag represents and their connection to the island.

The Bunting Project won the Scottish EPIC Award in 2013.
