A walking holiday in the Outer Hebrides is the perfect way to unwind and explore the unique identity of our islands. Get up close to nature, explore our island environment and uncover our history and heritage.

The Deserted Village of Stiomrabhaigh (Stemreway)

A short walk of 4km (2 miles) to an abandoned village on the north shore of Loch Sealg in the Isle of Lewis.

Discover a waymarked route of 22km along the spectacular North East coast of Lewis offering breathtaking views, history and legend.

Great Bernera Walk

A circular walk of 11km around part of Great Bernera offering a visit to a Bronze Age dwelling at Bosta Beach.
Rhenigidale and Maraig from Urgha

A circular walk that uses the old postman’s path to Reinigeadal – the last village in the UK to be reached by a road. Look out for porpoises in Loch Trolamaraig and enjoy views of the uninhabited Shiant Islands and the mighty Clisham.
North Harris Eagle Observatory Walk

Just a short walk up a 2km gravel track you’ll find the North Harris Eagle Observatory and one of the best opportunities in Scotland for viewing the iconic golden eagle.

Iochdar Walk

A gentle circular walk around the community of Iochdar on the west coast of South Uist offering superb coastal views from the Atlantic-facing beach.
Langass

A peaceful walking trail through a community woodland on the island of North Uist where you can enjoy wildlife spotting and walking amongst the trees.
Tangasdal

This is an established trail with way-marker posts in Barra. It has a combination of cultural and natural heritage which gives a great insight to the island’s past and present. It has also some truly spectacular scenery.
Hebridean Way

For those looking for an unforgettable adventure, there is the option of walking or cycling the length of the Outer Hebrides along the Hebridean Way – our long-distance walking route which stretches for 156 miles from Vatersay in the south to Stornoway in the north. It’s a truly iconic island experience.
