About

Clò Mòr Harris Tweed® Exhibition

For an unforgettable visitor experience combining culture and shopping, visit our Clò Mòr Harris Tweed® Exhibition at Drinishader. Clò Mòr (Gaelic for “Big Cloth”) is the affectionate local name for Harris Tweed, and this purpose-built exhibition helps bring the story of Harris Tweed to life. Enjoy a self-guided tour through the exhibit that showcases the famous cloth through the ages, from traditional tools to modern innovations and catwalk creations. Showcasing displays of old photographs, historical artefacts, weaving footage and contemporary tweed fashion designs and the journey of Harris Tweed from croft to catwalk. A fun and educational stop for all ages, it’s a celebration of Hebridean craftsmanship and a chance to appreciate why this handwoven cloth has earned its iconic status around the world.

After immersing yourself in the exhibition, be sure to explore the additional exhibition inside our shop. An intimate setting that reveals more practical examples such as traditional single width looms, tailored goods from decades past and various items from the late Marion Campbell (BEM); an icon to the industry and one of the last people to do the process entirely by herself. Be sure to browse our Harris Tweed shop, providing a wide range of Harris Tweed goods – from tailored clothing, stylish bags, purses, footwear and unique gifts for the home. These Harris Tweed products ensure you can take home an authentic slice of the Outer Hebrides’ tradition.

The Clò Mòr exhibition is open April–October (Monday–Saturday), and coach parties are welcome, with facilities available such as public toilets and a hot drinks machine. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a lover of fashion, or simply curious, this Exhibition offers a warm Hebridean welcome and a fascinating insight into the heritage of Harris Tweed – plus the opportunity to purchase your very own piece of this iconic cloth.
