Afternoon Activities and Local Experiences

After exploring the castle, head back into town and stop at Charles Macleod Butchers or W J Macdonald’s to taste the famous Stornoway Black Pudding. Enjoy lunch at HS 1, a local favourite in the town centre.

Experience Hebridean craft and culture at the Harris Tweed Story Room in Stornoway Town Hall and learn why this fabric has its own Act of Parliament. Nearby, the Stornoway Distillers Visitor Centre and Gin School offer tours and tastings.

Take time to wander the town centre:

  1. See the Sheòl an Iolaire sculpture, commemorating the 1919 maritime disaster.
  2. Visit An Lanntair arts centre for exhibitions and live performances.
  3. Browse local shops for Harris Tweed, island jewellery, Hebridean spirits, including Island Spirit Whisky Shop, Hebridean Jewellery, and Ishga Skincare.
