About

Situated in the hamlet of Carinish, Isle of North Uist, with views out to Baleshare Island and Trinity Temple, this newly refurbished and tastefully updated small hotel is perfectly positioned for exploring the Uists from Eriskay to Berneray and all these Islands have to offer from stunning beaches, beautiful scenery, wildlife, history and adventure.

Our Story:

After much deliberation, planning and a pandemic!,  Stephen and Susan Young, originally from Perth, Central Scotland,  purchased Temple View Hotel in October 2020.  Their aim was to create a great business with great food, great service and, above all else, great comfort for all their guests.

They had a vision for this small, outdated hotel they'd taken the plunge to purchase, they weren’t afraid of a challenge, to the contrary, they relished it!  The pandemic set in, but it didn't discourage them from selling their house, giving up their jobs and taking a huge risk to move lock, stock and barrel to the Isle of North Uist.

Despite the pandemic, and a second lockdown, they forged ahead with their plans and within 3 years, with their joint capabilities of property renovation and an eye for detail, the entire hotel has been refurbished creating a truly comfortable home from home with a lovely ambience and vibe.

Stephen and Susan run the hotel together with the help of a small core team of staff.  They are both hands-on with all operations within the hotel including their home-style cooking.

All of our team are local to North Uist, and are the core of this family led business. They have been with us since taking over the hotel in 2020, all loyal, all hardworking and all focussed on the service and comfort of our guests.

Accommodation:

Our rooms have all been tastefully refurbished with new modern furniture and equipped with flat screen HD Smart TVs, desk and comfy chairs.

For the decor, Susan took her inspiration from the colours of the beautiful scenery we are so privileged to be surrounded by every day here in North Uist.  In most of our rooms the colours reflect the azure blue of the sea whilst in our 2 rooms in the "old" house, the colours reflect the heather and machair and all are complemented with hints of Harris Tweed.

We have 10 spacious well appointed letting bedrooms each with their own en-suite facilities. There are 4 single rooms, 3 double rooms and 3 twin rooms.  Our twin rooms can be configured as a twin or a super-king double.

Our Meals:

Breakfast is included in our room rate and is complementary for our guests.  We serve daily from 7.30am to 9.00am.

Evening Meals are served daily from 6.00pm to 7.45pm (last orders).  Our food is home-cooking style using as much local produce as possible.

Lounge Bar:

Our lounge bar is a small cosy and relaxing area, is restricted to residents only and is open from 5.00pm to 10.30pm.  Sit back and relax in our comfy wingback chairs and enjoy a refreshment before or after dinner.  We have a good selection of wine, local gin, Scottish malt whisky and Island beer for you to enjoy.

Guest Lounge:

Our guest lounge to the front of the hotel furnished with comfy leather sofas offers a peaceful retreat after a day's exploring to read a book, play a boardgame, watch TV or enjoy a refreshment from the bar and watch the sun go down.  An assortment of books, boardgames, jigsaw puzzles and general information of the local area is available for all our guests.

Things to Do:

North Uist offers a huge amount to do and see and a full information guide is available at our hotel.  Activities include:

Walking, Cycling, Surfing, Paddle Boarding, Wild Swimming, Kayaking, Wildlife and Bird tours, Boat Trips, Fishing, Archaeology & History, Craft tours, Distillery tours, to name a few.

Temple View is an ideal centre for touring North and South Uist, Eriskay, Benbecula and Berneray.  Day trips can easily be undertaken by car/passenger ferry to Lewis, Harris, and Barra.
