Hebridean Way Cycling Route - Lewis


Moderate to Difficult




The route travels through the hilly Lochs area of Lewis, and then at Leurbost follows the road around the scenic west side of Lewis, past the famous Callanish Stones and then on up to the Butt of Lewis. This part of the route is 62 miles (100km).

Cycle Waypoints

  1. 1 Bird of Prey Trail location marker to the right in the car park
  2. 2 Island Arts gift shop
  3. 3 Turn left towards the west coast. Just beyond the junction is a shop to the left if you carry straight on.
  4. 4 The route follows the main road round the corner. To the left is the Callanish Stones, Calanais Visitor Centre and Cafe
  5. 5 Doune Braes Hotel to the left
  6. 6 Gearrnannan Blackhouse village with museum and cafe is a mile down the road to the left. The route follows the main road round the corner
  7. 7 Dalbeag beach down to the left
  8. 8 Shop up to the left
  9. 9 Takeaway to the left
  10. 10 Turn left tp follow the route to Ness. To the right there is a nearby shop
  11. 11 Cafe and gallery to the left
  12. 12 Pottery to the left and hotel to the right
  13. 13 Comunn Eachdraidh Nis shop, museum and cafe to the left
  14. 14 Turn right for local shop Cross Stores. The route follows the main road straight on.
  15. 15 Shop to the left
  16. 16 Taigh Dhonnchaidh Arts and Music Centre on the right
  17. 17 Gift shop to the left
  18. 18 Turn here to the left towards the Butt of Lewis
  19. 19 Loch Stiapabhat Bird of Prey Trail location marker to the right
  20. 20 Decca Dining and The Buttery Cafe on the left
  21. 21 At the crossroads carry on straight ahead
  22. 22 You have reached the end of the Hebridean Way Cycling Route. You have just completed 10 islands and 185 miles. Well done!
