About

Grinneabhat is a community owned cèilidh/meeting place with self-catering accommodation. We have two different types of room: the downstairs Eala room is a fully wheelchair accessible twin/double, while upstairs there are three rooms with comfortable, curtained ‘box bed’ style bunk beds. Feadag sleeps two and Uiseag and Curracag each sleep four. All rooms are en-suite. The bunk rooms can be booked by the bed or by the room, and groups can book sole use of the accommodation. There is a spacious kitchen with a large dining table and a small table with window seating, and guests can use the café/cèilidh room as a lounge area in the evening.

The Grinneabhat building is a former school, built in the 1870s. The accommodation is in the schoolhouse, while the former classrooms house a café, gallery space showing contemporary art and cultural exhibitions, and a community room hosting events, workshops and classes which guests are welcome to attend. There is also a launderette, and a garden with community growing plots and polycrub (a type of storm-proof greenhouse).

Located in the heart of a crofting village, Grinneabhat is community owned and run: by visiting you will be supporting sustainable community development, and will gain an insight into island life and culture, and the Gaelic language.
