About

Grey Goose cottage is the perfect Lewis self-catering holiday cottage. Only a 20-minute drive from Stornoway and tucked away in the picturesque crofting village of Keose, the cottage has an enviable position looking over Loch Keose, which is only metres away. Appreciated by the adventurous, the curious and those looking for rest, ideally situated for exploring both Lewis and Harris.

The cottage provides a countryside retreat surrounded by nature. The crystal-clear waters of Loch Keose are abundant with wildlife. You are sure to see fish jumping on a summers evening along with many birds including herons, black-throated divers and the magnificent white-tailed eagle, the largest bird of prey in the UK.  Otters are known to be in the area, travelling between the freshwaters of Loch Keose and the sea loch to the front of the cottage, Loch Erisort.  With persistence you may be rewarded in spotting these elusive creatures!

Sleeping five people, the cottage is very well equipped with everything you need for your Outer Hebrides Holiday. On the ground floor, flooded with light on bright days, you’ll find the fully equipped kitchen, including a dishwasher, and the dining living area with patio doors opening onto the little patio area. Also on the ground floor is a double bedroom with ensuite WC, and a bathroom with a full-sized bath and shower over bath. Upstairs, there is one double and one single bedroom.  Outside there is a mature garden, small wooded area, a picnic bench, and charcoal BBQ. A sun house with sofa provides a useful place to dry clothes and store bikes or muddy boots.

Guests at the cottage can fish on the loch for free, there are plenty of brown trout. For the adventurous, the cottage provides the ideal opportunity to get on the water with a range of sit on top kayaks, inflatable paddleboards and pack rafts (new for 2023) available for day or week hire.

The cottage is a great base for exploring lots of the attractions and things to do on the islands. For example, Callanish Standing Stones, Isle of Harris Distillery, Gearrannan Blackhouse Village and the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse.  The Hebrides are surrounded by some of the most extraordinary beaches with stunning turquoise waters and barely another footprint to be seen.
