Hebridean Way Cycling Route - Lewis


Moderate to Difficult




The route travels through the hilly Lochs area of Lewis, and then at Leurbost follows the road around the scenic west side of Lewis, past the famous Callanish Stones and then on up to the Butt of Lewis. This part of the route is 62 miles (100km).

Cycle Waypoints

  1. 1 You have reached the end of the Hebridean Way Cycling Route. You have just completed 10 islands and 185 miles. Well done!
  2. 2 At the crossroads carry on straight ahead
  3. 3 Decca Dining and The Buttery Cafe on the left
  4. 4 Loch Stiapabhat Bird of Prey Trail location marker to the right
  5. 5 Turn here to the left towards the Butt of Lewis
  6. 6 Gift shop to the left
  7. 7 Taigh Dhonnchaidh Arts and Music Centre on the right
  8. 8 Shop to the left
  9. 9 Turn right for local shop Cross Stores. The route follows the main road straight on.
  10. 10 Comunn Eachdraidh Nis shop, museum and cafe to the left
  11. 11 Pottery to the left and hotel to the right
  12. 12 Cafe and gallery to the left
  13. 13 Turn left tp follow the route to Ness. To the right there is a nearby shop
  14. 14 Takeaway to the left
  15. 15 Shop up to the left
  16. 16 Dalbeag beach down to the left
  17. 17 Gearrnannan Blackhouse village with museum and cafe is a mile down the road to the left. The route follows the main road round the corner
  18. 18 Doune Braes Hotel to the left
  19. 19 The route follows the main road round the corner. To the left is the Callanish Stones, Calanais Visitor Centre and Cafe
  20. 20 Turn left towards the west coast. Just beyond the junction is a shop to the left if you carry straight on.
  21. 21 Island Arts gift shop
  22. 22 Bird of Prey Trail location marker to the right in the car park
