Hebridean Way Cycling Route - Eriskay and South Uist

Description

From the ferry terminal the route passes through the picturesque island of Eriskay over the causeway to South Uist. Here the route mostly follows the main road, but at South Boisdale (Leth Meadhanach) the route goes west towards the machair and goes through the villages of North Boisdale, Kilpheder and then rejoins the main road at Daliburgh. At Bornish the route once again turns west towards the machair through the vilage of Stoneybridge and rejoins the main road at Peninerine. The route then follows the main route and across the causeway to Benbecula. This part of the route is 31.9 miles.

Cycle Waypoints

  1. 1 The ferry terminal building has showers and toilets
  2. 2 Turn left here
  3. 3 Eriskay community shop and post office to the left
  4. 4 The route follows the road round the corner to the right. To the left down the hill is the Am Poilitican bar and restaurant
  5. 5 Turn left here to the causeway to South Uist
  6. 6 Eriskay causeway - great for spotting otters and birds of prey. You have just completed island 3, another 7 to go!
  7. 7 Turn right here
  8. 8 To the right is Kilbride Campsite and Cafe
  9. 9 Turn right to follow the route. Polochar Inn to the left
  10. 10 Turn left into the village of South Boisdale
  11. 11 Turn right to follow the route.
  12. 12 Turn left to follow the route
  13. 13 Turn right to follow the route
  14. 14 Turn left at the junction. The Borrodale Hotel is on the corner, and there is a post office and supermarket in Daliburgh.
  15. 15 Turn right here
  16. 16 The birthplace of the famous Flora MacDonald is to the left
  17. 17 Kildonan Museum, cafe and craft shop to the right
  18. 18 Turn left here to follow the route along the coast
  19. 19 Turn left here
  20. 20 Turn left here to rejoin the main road.
  21. 21 Our Lady of the Isles statue to the right
  22. 22 The route follows the road straight. Salar Smokehouse and Orasay Inn are down the road to the right.
  23. 23 Hebridean Jewellery Cafe is down the road to the left. The route is straight on.
  24. 24 South Ford causeway. You have just completed island 4, another 6 to go!
