Tiumpan Head is located at the far eastern end of Point in Lewis.
A lighthouse is located here to mark the western limit of the Minch and was designed by David and Charles Stevenson, built by John Aitken and first lit in December 1900. Still an active lighthouse today, it was automated in 1985.
There are spectacular views from here across the Minch to the mainland, and in the other direction into and across Broad Bay. This is a good point to see the sun rise over the mountains of the mainland.
Tiumpan Head is one of the best places in Scotland for whale-watching. Look out for minke and humpback whales as well as dolphins and porpoises.
Parking is at the bottom of the hill, then it’s a short walk up to the spotting area by the lighthouse on a tarmacked road. Car parking is very limited and there is no parking in the turning circle in front of the lighthouse itself.

Photographers Tip
The rising sun taken from the shadow of the lighthouse can produce a very pleasing image.
