About

Akin to a large slim duck. Grey on top, white underparts in winter. In summer sports a blood red throat. Easily found at North Loch Eynort during the spring and summer. Comes to the sea loch to feed from the breeding grounds in the hills. A goose-like cackle given in flight. Dives in lochs to catch fish by just sinking from the surface. in winter does same at sea. often seen in flight as it moves between nest and sea to feed. looks like a thin goose in flight.

Can be vocal at breeding sites and when seen in flight. An eery far carrying howl.
