An Lanntair in Stornoway and Taigh Chearsabhagh in North Uist, our two main island arts venues both emphasise Gaelic culture in their performing arts schedules as well as their exhibitions and installations. The bars of Stornoway, and indeed the hotel bars throughout the islands, play host to Gaelic musicians, be they from the islands or further-afield, traditional or modern, accomplished or unknown.

However, the heart of Gaelic culture is found in the townships that run the length of the islands. Many have a Historical Society or Comman Eachdraidh which act as both a heritage archive that often becomes a planned and impromptu performance venue.

They more rural areas are also where you may be lucky enough to recieve an invitation to a house ceilidh. Spend an evening, the way Gaels have for centuries with informal but often exquisite performances of Gaelic poetry, story and song lasting into the small hours.
