About

Old Lochmaddy School is the host of the Àrainneachd Alainn environment exhibition, where visitors can learn more about the geology, habitats, and wildlife that make the Uist archipelago special. Hands-on rock specimens, microscopes, video displays, and information panels form the basis of an interactive exhibit that keeps education alive in a former village primary school.

Areas covered at the exhibition include:

  • Our environment
  • Our land
  • Our marine environment
  • Our habitats
  • Machair

The school is also used for traditional weaving classes, courtesy of Machair Weave, and holds regular talks and activities through which experts share their knowledge on the island and its environment.
