Petrol and Garages

Travellers bringing their own vehicles or renting a car in the Western Isles will need to find petrol stations in the Outer Hebrides.

Drivers needing to buy fuel in the Western Isles should be aware that there are large distances between filling stations in the Outer Hebrides and should plan accordingly.

Visitors may also wish to remember that in some areas garages and gas stations in the Outer Hebrides observe traditional Sunday closing.

If you need to find a garage or petrol station on Lewis, Harris, North Uist, South Uist, Benebecula or Barra and Vatersay, please refer to the gas station locations within this section.

Alternatively, staff at the islands’ Visitor Information Centres will be happy to help you with finding garages in the Western Isles, allowing you to purchase petrol or diesel and continue your Scottish islands holiday.
