International Travel to Scotland
There are no Covid-19 travel conditions to visiting Scotland, regardless of what country you live in or your vaccination status. However, check your own country's travel guidance for travelling back home and note that travel guidance can change at short notice.
When in the Outer Hebrides
Advice from the Scottish Government is to continue to wear a mask in crowded places. We would also recommend visitors maintaining physical distancing and washing or sanitising hands regularly. This is not a legal requirement but we kindly ask that you do it as a precaution to help stop the spread of the virus across our island communities.
If you develop Covid-19 symptoms, you should immediately self isolate and book a test through NHS Inform or if you can't get online, phone 119 (required until 30 April).
Responsible Tourism
Plan ahead
Our regular visitors will understand how special our islands are. By choosing to visit us, you’re committing to showing respect for our communities and environment throughout your stay. We urge you to plan ahead, book ferries and accommodation well in advance to avoid disappointment.
Motorhomes and Campervans
As visitor numbers with motorhomes and campervans continue to grow, our council Comhairle nan Eilean Siar are requesting that you plan your trip carefully by booking campsites where you can. Please do not stay out-with campsites and designated overnight spots as this causes problems for our communities and environment. Whilst we are investing in facilities in the Outer Hebrides, this will help to manage numbers, alleviate pressure on our fragile environment and avoid excessive impact on our communities. Our Motorhome and Campervan Guide has lots of useful information.
PLACE Visitor Code
We encourage all our visitors to follow our P.L.A.C.E. Visitor Code and help to keep the Outer Hebrides special. P.L.A.C.E. stands for
Parking – consider wildlife, natural habitats and residents when parking
Litter – Leave no trace. Take your litter home
Animals – Do not allow your dog to interfere with livestock
Campers – Whether in a tent or motorhome leave no trace and camp considerately
Engage – Support local businesses and community groups wherever you can
