See and Do in Uist
What is there to see and do in Uist? It depends on what you like to do, but Uist has pretty much everything covered.
Here are a few suggestions - we will go south to north:
Eriskay
Check out the hardy Eriskay Ponies - the roam about the island and were work horses in the days gone by - just don't feed them! Pop to the beach for a walk (or even a bit of stand up paddleboarding!) and then head to Am Politician for a bite to eat and hear (and see) objects from the famous ship that ran aground nearby with a cargo of whisky!
South Uist
Head for the beach - its 20 miles long, so pretty much any village to the west will take you to the beach. You will pass through the famous Outer Hebrides machair and undoubtedly you will see lots of western isles wildlife. If you want a tour, Long Island Retreats offer great croft tours and Uist Sea Tours boat trips. Kildonan Museum is the place to learn about the history of the island and don’t forget to check out the amazing artisan products from Uist Craft Producers at the Kildonan Centre!
Benbecula
While your in Benbecula, head to North Uist Distillery, take in a stroll along Culla Bay beach, hire an e-bike or if you are feeling more energetic head up Reuval - the only hill in Benbecula - which has a spectauclar view and you may even spot a golden eagle on the way!
Grimsay
At Grimsay, head to Uist Wool, take a boat trip with Lady Anne Boat Trips and check out the Grimsay Boat Museum.
North Uist
Don't miss Taigh Chearsabhagh in North Uist for a mix of history and art, Langass Woodland to check out Hercules the Bear, Balranald RSPB reserve for wildlife, birds and a great walking trail. Meet Corinna at Sollas Bookbinding and Louise Shoreline Stoneware both makers use the environment to inspire their work.
Berneray
Lastly, but by no means the least, is Berneray. Berneray boasts two spectacular beaches and there is a walk which takes in both of them. Check out the gift shop, the Nurses Cottage museum and don't miss the Seal Viewing point where you can watch the seals laze around on the rocks.
