About

Oran na Mara is a remarkable 5 star self-catering house for up to 6 guests in a truly extraordinary location on the West Coast of the Isle of Harris. It is dog-friendly too.

The Sunday Times calls it “Scotland’s Most Beautiful Beach Retreat”.  Featured on “Homes By the Sea” on Channel Four and on the cover of Coast Magazine, this unique home is a place to make memories that will last a lifetime.

The house is designed as a series of curves to provide different views from every room, from the Islands in the Sound, to the 2 mile curved white sand Scarista Beach, the turquoises and blues of the Atlantic, and to the island of Taransay and the hills of North Harris.  The triple-glazed windows are floor-to-ceiling in the vast living area - the TV is even on a lifting mechanism so that it doesn’t interrupt the views when not in use.  The sunset is directly visible from the house most of the year, and being in a dark sky area the stars are incredible on clear nights, with the chance of the Aurora making an appearance.

Nestled into the hillside above the coast, Oran na Mara is built of traditional stone and thatch.  Best-in-class interior design evokes the spirit and natural environment of Harris.  Delightful details abound, including the unique “Boat Bathroom”.

This exclusive, private house has every luxury.  Beautiful furnishings, Hypnos beds, a professionally-equipped kitchen, Miele appliances, a bean-to-cup coffee machine, a Panasonic bread maker and much more.

We welcome families and there is a special treasure hunt for children, with hidden turtles around the house to find providing the unlock code for the treasure chest.  Well-behaved dogs are welcome, and have their own treats to enjoy.

The house has a large enclosed garden, EV charger, a BBQ, and plenty of outdoor seating.

A panoramic wood-burning stove is lovely on cooler evenings, and is situated in a sunken “snug” which is perfect to enjoy conversation and treats.

Oran na Mara is close to the excellent An Clachan shop in Leverburgh, the wonderful honesty food shed “Croft 36” in Northton, and the restaurants at Scarista House and Talla na Mara.  We are neighbours to the Isle of Harris Golf Club, which has to have the most beautifully-situated golf course on Earth!  There are plenty of walks nearby, and our digital guestbook provides comprehensive information so that you enjoy your holiday to the full.
