Lewis offers a wide range of places to stay - from stylish boutique hotels in Stornoway to cosy B&Bs, peaceful self‑catering cottages and campsites near Calanais, home to the famous standing stones. You’ll also find some great sporting estates in the Outer Hebrides.
In Harris, you can stay in Tarbert near the Isle of Harris Gin Distillery, or choose rural spots close to world‑famous beaches. The rugged east side offers unique hideaways, and Scalpay has an excellent selection of accommodation.
North Uist & Berneray

Definitions
Crofthouse
A traditional Hebridean home built on a croft - a small agricultural holding found across the Highlands and Islands.
Machair
A rare coastal habitat found mainly in the Outer Hebrides, made of shell‑rich sand and covered in wildflowers during summer.
Glamping Pod
A modern, insulated timber cabin offering a comfortable upgrade from traditional camping. Pods usually include heating, electricity, proper beds and outdoor seating.

Many visitors island hop through the Outer Hebrides first, then find a favourite and return again and again.
Can I easily travel between the islands during my stay?
Yes. The islands are connected by ferries and causeways, making island‑hopping simple. Many visitors stay on more than one island during their trip.
