About

With some of the highest densities of breeding golden eagles in all of Europe, North Harris provides one of the best opportunities in Scotland for viewing this iconic species. The North Harris Eagle Observatory is situated right in the heart of the territory of a pair of golden eagles, perfect for watching their daily activities.

The Observatory is an attractive timber hide with large windows commanding spectacular views up Glen Meavaig. There are information panels inside, and at times the North Harris Ranger will be on hand to answer questions and help locate these magnificent birds. Golden Eagles are most active during bright breezy weather, and are usually spotted in flight above the skyline. Frequent scanning of the skyline with binoculars is usually the best way to locate them.

The Observatory is an easy 2km walk along the track heading up Glen Meavaig, North Harris. Parking is available on the road (B887) at the bottom of the glen (NB 101 063). It is open to the public all year round.

The North Harris Eagle Observatory was constructed in 2012 by the North Harris Trust, with funding from Scottish Natural Heritage, LEADER Innse Gall and the Brown Forbes Memorial Fund.
