As the Hebridean Way walking route is a relatively new route, let us know what you think of our route. We are really keen to find out your experience of walking the Hebridean Way and welcome any comments you would like to make and you can leave feedback here.
With our Hebridean weather, crofting activiites and environment the route may, from time to time, be problematic and potentially result in temporary diversions. If you come across any problems, again please let us know.
All sections - Please note that recent winter storms have caused some damage along the Hebridean Way. Please take extra care when walking this route. If you come accross any damage, please contact us: enquiries@outerhebridestourism.org
May 2026
Section A: Vatersay - Northton
Diversion 1: The path between point 4 on Vatersay and point 9 in Barra is damaged. Please follow the road from the start of the Hebridean Way at Vatersay and rejoin at point 10 in Borve, Barra.
Section D - Howmore to Liniclate
Diversion 2: At point 11 at the Hebrides Range, the route once more heads to the east towards Lochcarnan. This part of the route can be badly flooded. If you are a very experienced walker, this may be ok but depending on your experience level, you may wish to follow the main road instead and avoid this section - particularly if the weather has been very wet in the recently. Instead of taking a right at the Hebrides Range, go straight on and follow the main road between points 11 and 24.
Diversion/Advisory 3: Section K - Scaladale to Balallan
Advisory between point 6 and 8 - Be aware that there is some forestry works going on in Aline Community Woodland. SSEN are removing some trees along the length of a new line where is passes through Aline Forest and will start 22 April 2025 until Mid-June 2025. There will be banksmen on site to manage operations and ensure walkers can safely pass through with minimal delay. They do not intend to close the route during operations.
Diversion around Loch Cuthaig at Balallan. This is particularly boggy and we urge you to avoid this part of the route. At point 15 on the wayfinder points, turn right towards the main road. Turn right and walk along the main road rejoining the route at Tomair.
