About

Hushinish lies art the end of a 12 mile twisting B track road. There are extensive views of the Atlantic Ocean. Nearby just to the north lies the uninhabited island of Scarp, the location of an experimental rocket postal service in the 1930s.
There are numerous photograpic shots here. A shot from the small bolders at the east end of the beach at low tide and towards the houses is worthwhile. October to March low midday sun is the most favourable time. A shot from the north pier acroos the Sound of Scarp on a summer evening works well.
Sensible footwear and bad weather clothing are essential for walking the path to Cravadal. The weather can change very quickly indeed, this being on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.

Photographers Tip

In July and early August the machair here is a mass of flowers and for good photographs early afternoon provides the best light. Look for a good patch of flowers and include it as foreground interest looking across to Scarp in the background.
