About

The sheltered harbour was named "Steering Bay" by the Vikings which, which phonetically translated became the name "Stornoway"
A walk through the castle grounds and up to the top of 'Gallows Hill' brings you to a fine viewpoint to take a picture of Stornoway Harbour. The best time is probably on a autumn morning when the trees are at their most colourful.

Photographers Tip

Winter is also a good time for this location with nice side lighting of the Castle and harbour.
