About

This crossing takes approximately 1hours 40mins, running 7 days a week. There is 1 crossing a day, there and back, sometimes 2 depending on the day of the week. If you are not such a good sailor, this is a shorter route accross the sea to both Harris and Lewis.

You can travel from Lochmaddy through the chain of islands and cross to the mainland using Caledonian Macbrayne Hopscotch tickets, which give you various options.

The ferry terminal is within walking distance to the village centre and the bus stop.

If you are taking a car, you are advised to book early as the ferry can be very busy, particularly in the summer season. The drive from Uig to Inverness takes apporximately 3 hours and approximately 5/6 hours to Glasgow/Edinburgh. You are requires to be at the ferry terimnal at least 45 minutes prior to departure.

It is also advisable to check the ferry service status, as ferries can be delayed or cancelled due to adverse weather.

UIG HARBOUR CLOSURE

Please note, Uig Harbour in Skye will close for planned upgrade works from 16 January - 13 March 2023 and 30 October - 11 December 2023. This will affect Tarbert (Harris) and Lochmaddy (North Uist) ferry services and alternative options are detailed here.
