About
Pobull Fhinn is the most prominent of several stone circles in Uist, located on the southern slopes of Ben Langass. Likely dating to the second millennium BC, it forms an oval about 37 metres by 28 metres in size. Around two dozen standing stones remain, with a tall single stone at the eastern edge and two fallen slabs to the west. Though some areas are now bare, the site’s scale and setting are striking. It sits on a natural plateau and is easily reached via a footpath near Langass Lodge. Grid reference: NF 8427 6502.
The name is Gaelic. and the phrase can be translated as "Fionn's people", "the white/fair people", or "Finn's tent". The stones are thought to be named after the legendary Irish warrior hero Fionn mac Cumhaill known in English as Finn or Fingal.
