The Grinneabhat building is a former school, built in the 1870s. The accommodation is in the schoolhouse, while the former classrooms house a café, gallery space showing contemporary art and cultural exhibitions, and a community room hosting events, workshops and classes which guests are welcome to attend. There is also a launderette, a drying room and a garden with community growing plots and polycrub (a type of storm-proof greenhouse).

Located in the heart of a crofting village, Grinneabhat is community owned and run: by visiting you will be supporting sustainable community development, and will gain an insight into island life and culture, and the Gaelic language.
