About

Urras nan Tursachan (the Standing Stones Trust) set up the Calanais Visitor Centre, and it was first opened to the public 30 June 1995. The main aim for the Visitor Centre is to educate visitors on the story of the world famous Callanish Standing Stones. As one of the main attractions on the island, the Standing Stones attract an estimated 150,000 people a year.

The centre has a dedicated area where the 'Story of the Sones' is told, costing £4 (concessions available) you can experience the history and mystery of the Calanais Stone Circle.

There are two other standing stone sites which are well worth a visit, they are smaller but equally as interesting as Calanais, they are simply called Calanais 2 and 3.

Local artists and artisans supply the gift shop with hand crafted, small batch paintings and a wide variety of products to help you remember your visit to the Calanais Stone Circle.
