A new chapter is about to begin at the Calanais Standing Stones, one of Scotland’s most iconic historical landmarks. This legendary Neolithic monument has captivated people for millennia, and now visitors can delve further into its ancient legacy as the Calanais Visitor Centre launches its preview season. Our transformed centre provides a fresh perspective on this extraordinary site, offering a deeper understanding of its history and significance.
We are delighted to invite you to experience this special place during our preview seasonas we continue preparations for our official launch later this summer. Located beside the world-famous Calanais Standing Stones, Our transformed centre features a welcoming café serving delicious homemade dishes made from local produce, a thoughtfully curated shop showcasing a bespoke Calanais range alongside crafts from talented Hebridean makers, and a brand-new exhibition suite where you can discover the stories, heritage, and culture that have made Calanais a place of wonder for over 5,000 years.
Unique Island Crafts at the Shop
The new shop really celebrates the Outer Hebrides and the stones, and it is set to become a go-to spot for unique, ethical, and handmade island crafts. Our retail manager, Laura, has been working closely with local makers whose work is inspired by our island landscape and the stones themselves. She curates the shop with carefully chosen products that help visitors connect with the history, folklore, traditions, and creativity that make Calanais so special. We have teamed up with these local crafters to design a unique, bespoke range of products specifically for the centre. Because of this, you will find special items and handmade pieces on our shelves that aren’t available anywhere else, alongside classic Hebridean and Harris Tweed products.
Whether you are visiting for the first time or returning to reconnect with this extraordinary landscape, this is your chance to be among the first to explore this new chapter.
