The shop fulfils a vital role in securing the viability of our community in a very marked and direct way. It is the hub of the community - as well as offering a well stocked and well run shop; it provides a meeting place which tackles social isolation - particularly amongst our elderly Gadhlig speaking population, it is a source of news and information, and it is the Island's largest employer with 8 staff offering flexible working hours to parents and school pupils. The causeway to South Uist and the new Barra to Eriskay Ferry has also helped increase visitor numbers to the island and the shop.
All profits are re-invested in the business and together with a good level of local commitment and support, the shop continually improves and expands offering the perfect stop to those visiting Eriskay.
