The garage at the bottom of the path at 10 Backhill, Bereneray has, for the past 12 years, been a temporary studio for Edinburgh artist Damian Callan. This August the studio will be open to visitors who would like to see drawings and paintings inspired by the island of Berneray.
Visiting every August with his wife, children, friends and family artist Damian Callan spends time working outdoors on plein air pastel landscapes of the changing weather and light across the island of Berneray. In the studio, working from sketches, he develops oil paintings including those of figures in the sea at West Beach; swimming in the beautiful turquoise water and battling with the breaking surf. Visitors to the studio will be able to see work in progress and gain some insight into the artist’s practice. Some work will also be available for sale.
