Traigh Griais or Gress beach is a stunning sheltered bay with white sand and turquoise water. Like all of our sandy beaches, the sand is largely made up of crushed shells which are regularly blown ashore by gales.
In the dunes, there is a wealth of wildlife including wildflowers which bloom in summer, which are at their best between mid June and mid August, and an abundance of coastal birds.
Watching the sunrise along the beaches of the east coast is a wonderful meditative experience. The beaches are quiet (apart from the sound of the sea and wildlife) and you can be undisturbed in nature. Triagh Griais is a perfect beach for a relaxing walk and is popular with wild swimmers.
The beach is just after the village of Gress before you get to the cemetery and is easily accessed from a small car park. There are also picnic tables and benches available.
