Open Studios Hebrides will be holding a new event for artists and makers who live and/or work in the Loch a Tuath area between Tong and Tolsta.

Open Studios are an established feature of many places in the UK and Scotland boasts some very successful events. Artists open their studios or workplaces over a set period of time and welcome the public to come and meet them, view their work and find out a little more about the wealth and variety of creativity produced locally.

Our Tong to Tolsta event involves six days of art exploration starting at Tong Hall, where several artists will be sharing the space, and continuing down to Tolsta to discover individual studios. 12 talented artists and makers, 8 venues to visit.

It will take place on two consecutive weekends in July, starting on Thursday 22nd July at 10.00am and will be open on the Friday and Saturday. It will open again on Thursday 29th July until Saturday 31st. 10.00am – 4.00pm.

A brochure and map gives detailed information of each studio venue that can be visited – these are available from the Tourist Information Centre, Empty House Traders, Gordons Garage in Back, Buth Tolastaidh in Tolsta and at various other places around the island.

Help us give our amazing talented members the chance to showcase their work, meet new people and sell their arts and crafts.

We hope that this will become a regular event each year and will give a boost to the creative residents of the area who have had a tough time during this past year.

Each venue will have the necessary health and safety measures required for you to visit safely and we hope to see you there. Watch out for further details as they emerge and a link to our website which is in the process of being set up.

This Friday we will be doing Free Art Friday – artists have given small pieces of their artwork which will be placed around Stornoway and the finder can keep it.
