About

***Opening Monday 17th August 2020***

An Lanntair arts centre is a thriving hub of creativity and one of the most popular visitor attractions in the Outer Hebrides.

Offering a year-round diverse programme of events, the award-winning multi-arts venue presents a contemporary art gallery, theatre, cinema, dance studio, concert hall, and platform for poetry and literature, alongside a lively cafe/bar and gift shop.

An Lanntair’s work stretches across national and international platforms, its distinctiveness lying in being ‘of the place’, rooted in the creativity of Gaelic and the Outer Hebrides, and follows the arts centre’s Mission: ‘To connect and inspire people in producing extraordinary, creative programmes, uniquely rooted in the place and reflecting the Arts and ideas of our time’.

Annually, the Stornoway-based arts centre plays host to the Hebridean Celtic Festival concerts and Late-Night Festival Club, as well as two unique An Lanntair festivals each year – Faclan: The Hebridean Book Festival and The Hebridean Dark Skies Festival.

One of An Lanntair’s flagship cultural events, Faclan: The Hebridean Book Festival was founded in 2006 and takes place each Autumn, drawing audiences and top-level authors and performers from across the UK and beyond, with previous speakers including former UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, Alistair Darling, and renowned Ethologist Richard Dawkins.

The Hebridean Dark Skies Festival offers an ambitious two-week programme of events, from stargazing opportunities, talks and workshops, to live music, theatre, film, art, and family activities; and has attracted guest speakers as the late John Brown, Astronomer Royal for Scotland, writer and comedian Robin Ince, and BBC’s The Sky At Night presenter Chris Lintott.

Alongside new art, live music and theatre, comedy and cinema entertainment, An Lanntair also presents a popular Education and Outreach programme, with family and young people’s activities available at An Lanntair and in community venues throughout Lewis and Harris.
