The historic, quaint charm of the exterior of this listed cottage gives way to the modern, warm and comfortable interior of the property.
The cottage is situated a few hundred metres behind the stunning machair and beach in the small community of Clachan Sands.
It provides a perfect base for island exploration and there are numerous outdoor activities to enjoy. There are many walks that are suitable for all ages and abilities offering a great way to engage with the unique landscape. The coastline boasts some of the most stunning beaches around and the clear blue sea is a haven for wildlife. Corncrakes are frequently heard from the fields surrounding the cottage, and eagles regularly fly over on their way to feed on the machair.
The cottage has a C category listing with Historic Scotland.
History.
Tigh na Boireach was built by Donald McDougall in the 1920s when the family left the nearby island of Boreray, just off the coast of Berneray. The name Tigh na Boireach is Gaelic and translates in English to “the house of the man from Boreray”.
