Welcome to Gearraidh Hosta Cottage

Luxury Self Catering Hebridean Cottage on the shores of Loch Hosta

Stunning Location

The Isle of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides is a paradise for wildlife, beaches, nature and stunning scenery. Best enjoyed at your leisure where you learn to slow down, unwind and enjoy the simple things in life. A place to seek a different pace of life.

Gearraidh Hosta Cottage

The self catering cottage sits beside Loch Hosta which is famous for its trout fishing and wildlife. White-Tailed and Golden Eagles can regularly be seen soaring over the hill opposite and frequently over the loch in front of the house. Short Eared Owls and Hen Harriers regularly hunt over the adjacent pastureland. During Spring and Summer the elusive Corncrake can often be heard in the surrounding fields…. but rarely seen!

Hosta

Hosta is a small township on the west side of North Uist (approx 30 mins drive from the Lochmaddy Ferry terminal) surrounded by common grazing pastureland often with sheep and cattle roaming freely by the lochside and beach.

The area is quiet and peaceful with traditional crofting and farming on the surrounding fields. On a clear night with virtually zero light pollution the night skies are a sight to behold viewed in blissful silence.

The Beach

The beautiful sweeping sandy Hosta Beach (Traigh Stir) is a 5 min walk from the house. The surrounding machair is a haven for flowers, wildlife, bees, butterflies and corncrakes. Hosta Beach is also a popular spot for surfers on a wild and windy day.

On a clear day, the mythical silhouetted islands of St Kilda (Hirta) and Boreray can be viewed on the horizon. These now deserted islands can be visited by booking local boat trips from Leverburgh or Berneray.
