Hebridean Self Catering Holidays

Seòl Mara @ Seilebost

Seòl Mara (meaning ‘the tide’ in Gaelic), has been completely renovated and furnished to a high standard. Set in an idyllic location where you can relax in front of the wood burning stove in this cosy traditional cottage, or from the rear garden with views of the hills and across the bay to Luskentyre village.

The cottage sleeps four and accommodation is split across a master bedroom and two single bedrooms. The modernised dining kitchen is fully equipped with a washing machine, tumble drier, dish washer, microwave and a Tassimo coffee machine. The bathroom has a pressurised shower. Oil central heating has been installed throughout. Touches of Harris Tweed, thick carpets, modernised kitchen and bathroom give a warm and luxurious feel. The front and rear entrance hallways and the kitchen all have hardwood flooring.

Corran @ Luskentyre

Corran, meaning ‘the peninsula’ in Gaelic, is the name of the beach across the bay. This traditional (stone built) Hebridean crofter’s house has recently undergone a renovation and has been upgraded and furnished to a high standard. This is the ideal place to stay if you’re looking to have a base in West Harris to do some exploring, spend your day on Luskentyre beach, or want to relax in front of the wood burning stove.

The house sleeps five. Upstairs is the king sized master bedroom, a twin bedroom and a small single bedroom. Downstairs, the large dining room, with views overlooking the bay, has a large table and comfortable sofa. Access to the beach is a short walk across the sand dunes from the bottom of the driveway.

What to Expect in our Cottages

For each of our cottages, we provide all linen, towels, electricity, central heating, logs for the wood burning stove, assortment of Tassimo pods, etc. Not forgetting the life essential super fast (and unlimited) wi-fi.

There is an extensive range of books about the local area and it’s natural history. There is a set of board games and a varied collection of DVDs for the times you may want to stay in.

We send out a link to our comprehensive digital guide. This will help you with getting the most out of your stay in the Hebrides, as it is filled with places of interest you can easily visit, a list of walks that are nearby or further afield into the more mountainous areas and a guide to the sampling the local produce. Although the guide is mobile / tablet friendly, there is also a printed version in each house.

      How to get here…

The Seòl Mara and Corran cottages are between 10 to 15 minutes drive from the ferry terminal at Tarbert. Tarbert is well served by amenities including shops, restaurants and hotels. The cottage is on the outskirts of the small village of Seilebost, set amongst some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland, with magnificent sandy beaches and the North Harris hills as a backdrop. Access to the sandy shoreline is via the enclosed garden.

      By Land

Reaching the ferry port, Uig from the South, will require an approach via the A82 / A87. Travelling through Ullapool, usually requires a drive via the A9 and A835 from the “central belt” of Scotland. Times for each journey can vary considerably depending upon time of year and time of day.

      By Sea

It is from Uig on the Isle of Skye that the Harris ferry, operated by Caledonian Macbrayne, departs from and takes approximately 1 hour 40 minutes. Alternatively, there is the Ullapool to Stornoway ferry which takes about 2 hours 30 minutes to cross the Minch. You can also sail from from the Island of Berneray to Leverburgh in the South of Harris, if you are spending time in the Southern Isles.

      By Air

There are regular flights to Stornoway from Glasgow (1 hour), Inverness (35 minutes) and Edinburgh (1 hour). You can fly with Loganair though you can also book through British Airways. If you do fly, Car Hire is available from Stornoway Airport.

      Reviews

We want our guests to love the place, whatever the occasion, whatever they do, whatever the weather. We believe we’ve provided everything you could possibly need during your stay. We know the location of the cottage will take your breath away. Don’t just take our word for it:

What our guests say about Seòl Mara

Seòl Mara is the most comfortable, well-equipped and beautifully-located cottage we have ever rented for a holiday. We spent a week here in March and wish we had arranged to stay for a fortnight. The location is incomparable. You can walk out of the back door, across the back lawn and straight down onto Seilebost beach. The walk out towards the ocean with the ever expanding view across to Luskentyre and the Harris mountains is stunning.”

“Lovely property with absolutely everything you could need for a wonderful stay. Right next to the beach, great views, every possible facility. Fab location on Harris, great for walking. Very well furnished, peaceful, large garden. The owners are easily contactable and ready to help or advise on anything, really friendly.”

      And not forgetting Corran

“We loved the house, it was the most perfect romantic gateway you can wish for. The house is exceptionally well equipped.. the view from windows in every room is stunning. It’s the best self-catering accommodation we ever stayed in.”

“We’ve stayed in Harris several times and this house and location were up there with the best. Very well equipped and furnished house with stunning views over Luskentyre beach. Easy walk to the beach. Fully and highly recommended.”
