Sealladh Eabhal [Eaval view] is a recently renovated, traditional stone cottage, situated on the picturesque island of Grimsay in the Outer Hebrides. Its ideal location, between North Uist and Benbecula, makes this the perfect base from which to explore the neighbouring islands and the Hebridean Way. Wander carefree on empty sandy beaches, machair, and moorland, or venture to the rugged, rocky eastern seaboard following ancient hill tracks.

Machair is an environmentally important strand of flower-rich, sandy soil carefully cultivated by traditional farming/crofting practices to support a wide variety of flora and fauna including endangered species such as the corncrake and great yellow bumblebee.

Sealladh Eabhal was built by my father and grandfather circa 1955 from local stone, some of which was broken by hand with fire and water and transported by boat from the nearby island of Ronay.

With this amazing history, I decided to renovate the old family home by rebuilding from the inside, keeping these outer stone walls intact. In addition to this, the feature mantlepiece was once part of a larger shipwrecked beam of wood, brought to shore by my grandfather, cleaned up, and put to good use supporting the downstairs floor. This part was salvaged and refurbished by myself in memory of this.
