About

Taigh Tharmoid Ruaidh forms a spacious one bedroomed cottage, plus alcove with bunk beds, closeto Bhaltos beach and the sea loch. Just a short walk down from the cottage is the old harbour andj etty with access to a white sand beach. The Bhaltos peninsula is one of the most spectacular areas of Lewis and the cottage is ideal for anyone looking to combine walking, kayaking, sailing and wild swimming. Even surfers will be happy at the nearby Cliff beach. Riof beach is a mile long, shell sand, beach backed by dunes and machair. The machair is full of colourful flowers in late spring and summer including Scottish bluebells in profusion, birds foot trefoil, orchids, eyebright, sea bindweed and corn marigold, just to mention a few. It really is a stunning display.

The cottage was newly renovated in 2019 and is comfortably appointed for a relaxing stay. If you need slightly larger accommodation there is a second cottage, Taigh Eachainn with two bedrooms. The two cottages can be let either separately or together. There is a sound proofed connecting doorand corridor linking the two cottages.

If you fancy viewing the coast from the water there is boat hire available nearby. Rich in wildlife and history this fascinating island offers the opportunity to see golden eagles, sea otters, red deer and various sea birds; while the standing stones at Callanish date back over 5,000 years and are second only to Stonehenge. With a well stocked community shop nearby and a community centre that also houses a museum and cafe you will be well catered for in this area but with Stornoway just over an hours drive north and Harris approximately and hour and a half south you will be able to explore the whole island from this comfortable base.
